AOR Bootleg Label Being Established !

Dear friends of good music wherever you roam,

we (the Ana2Men) made a decision today concerning the founding of our own Bootleg Label. Which means that we're planning on publishing our self-made concert recordings via torrents.

As there are but two Ana2Men we're still looking for some of you willing to support our ambitions. So if you are interested in helping AOR work out and find yourself fitting one of the following points, then come up here on the blog.

- You can get us audiance or soundboard recordings?
- You know about sound editing?
- You are creative with bootleg artwork?
- You have a fast upstream internet connection to help publish?

Then please contact us via email

ana2men@gmx.net

Thx a lot and keep rockin'!

Bob Dylan - Finjan Club (1962)

Today we present you one of the most brilliant bootlegs ever. The date is July 2, 1962. The place is Finjan Club at Montreal, Quebec. The artist is a young man named Robert Zimmerman. He's about to conquer the US from his New York City base. He's just changed his name to Bob Dylan and released his debut album. Canada is the next to go. In his suitcase he brings some of his own songs as well as traditionals and compositions of other artists. This release captures the whole set including conversations in between the songs and false starts. The audience is so quiet and the quality of the recordings so impressive that this one really is a must have. The godfather of songwriting performs his art at the point of his beginning. And you can turn up the volume, close your eyes, lean back and imagine to sit on a shabby wooden chair in a little broughtdown club listening to the man who'd soon grow a legend and give the world some of the most excellent folk and rock songs that have ever been composed. A man who'd influence generations of musicians that in return would influence the world.

Wouldn't You Miss Me? - The Madcap Laughs Last

Incredibly sad news are reaching us here at Anatomy of Rock. The words has been spread that the legandary founder and early master mind of Pink Floyd, Syd Barret, died of cancer at the age of 60 in his hometown Cambridge, England.

I can't seem to find much more information right now. Please check for news wherever you roam. Syd was one of my very first musical idols. Without him I would probably never have started song writing myself. So this is all from here for now.

I have to toast now to Syd in the stardome of rock.

"Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky - Shine on, you crazy diamond!"

P.S.: Follow the link in the comment or click the headline of this post to get very detailed information.

Grace Slick & the Great Society - Collector's Item (1966)

It was back in 1964 that Lyndon B. Johnson proclaimed The Great Society. And so did Grace and Jerry Slick the next year. Grace had been doing model jobs and Jerry was a cinematography student when they went to see Jefferson Airplane play at Marty Balin's Matrix Club. They decided that having a rock band would be more fun and pay off better than what they were up to. So they teamed up with Jerry's brother Darby and David Minor to found The Great Society. With Jerry's Somebody to Love and Grace' White Rabbit they soon gained local regards and finally were even offered a major deal with Colombia Records. But the contract only arrived when The Great Society had just disbanded. By this time Grace and Jerry did not only break up professionally but also was their marriage about to end. However, the Airplane needed a new member as Signe T. Anderson was pregnant and leaving the band. So they asked Grace to take her place - And how she did! Grace came along with a suitcase and two songs... The afore mentioned Somebody to Love and White Rabbit. So two songs of The Great Society would make the basement for the international breakthrough of Jefferson Aiplane.

Here you can hear the somewhat raw original versions along with many other songs from the days when a new age started in SF. So let us invite you with the words of Mr San Francisan Nights:

"Save up all your bread and fly Trans Love Airways to San Francisco, USA. It willbe worth it - if not for the sake of this song, but for the sake of your own peace of mind"

Give in to the wonderful voice of the hippiesque beauty queen with her ice blue eyes that were deeper than time... a dream passing by in the sky. *sigh*

P.S.: Grace, if you ever get to read this... and as you seem to marry a colleague in every band you join... Just leave a post and I'll invite you to a casting with my band! And as I am the worst Jim Morrison fan in the world... you might perform this strawberry thing on me too.

The Doors - The Complete Matrix Club Tapes (1967)

San Francisco, 1967. The ides of March are about to come. And so are the Doors... in order to play the Matrix Club for two nights. This venue co-owned by Jefferson Airplane's Marty Balin was unique in its atmosphere and its very special echo chamber sound. The Doors came here in between the release of their first two singles. Break On Through b/w End of the Night had just been published and Light My Fire b/w The Crystal Ship was yet to come. And so was the Doors' international breakthrough. They were already pretty big on the scene and playing more and more gigs. Time for intimate song writing and development was running out more and more which Jim would later regret again and again. But here they were trying on a lot of material from their self titled debut and the follow-ups (the blues classic Crawling King Snake would only be released on the Doors' last album) as well as some rare material they would only perform live on stage throughout their career. However, the Doors were polishing a lot of raw jewels here. Enjoy the special softness of these recordings and let the Doors take you to a magic place in the middle of the nowhere of your mind.

The Doors - Isle of Wight (1970)

There seems to be no better way to start a blog like this than by posting on the Doors. This LA based blues oriented rock band came to life in 1965 when Jim Morrison met his former fellow-student Ray Manzarek at Venice Beach. The rest of the story is history. With their infamous appearances, the dark sound and the damn lyrics the Doors soon broke on through like a comet into the stardom of rock music.

However, the career had its ups and downs. After the Miami incident in 1969 the Doors were missing out on the legandary Woodstock Festival. One year later a cast of probably even more virtuosity than that of 1969 took the Brtish Isle of Wight by storm. It was the last in a row of huge festivals of that generation. The Doors cast their magic upon the audiance one more time and Jim Morrison chanted his swan song to the end of a unique era.

Recorded live at the 3rd Isle Of Wight Festival at Afton Farm, Freshwater. Commencing at 12.05 am on Sunday, 31st August, 1970.

Setlist:

1. Back Door Man
2. Break On Through
3. When the Music's Over
4. Ship of Fools
5. Roudhouse Blues
6. Light My Fire
7. The End/Across the Sea/Away In India/ Crossroads/Wake Up/The End

Welcome !

A new page in the history of rock music has been opened now that two young men decided to devote a weblog to 60s and 70s psychedelic and progressive rock as well as to folk rock and such.
We'll also post bootlegs, pictures and lyrics that we appreciate and would like to receive a lot of feedback to all that stuff !
